About this session

This session is inspired by the CEEF Project based at the Fitzwilliam Museum (https://creative-economy.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/news/creative-economy-fellowships-funding-awarded), which brings together Creative Economy partners and museum academics to interrogate the use of digital 3D derivations and interventions within the context of the museum. This session will bring handling objects and digitally derived pieces (3D models, tactile exhibit pieces, digital installation) from the CEEF project, including an Egyptian Coffins Pop-Up exhibit, specialist 3D prints and interactive Museum in a Boxes. This will enable participants to not only learn and interact with objects from around the world, but also get a chance to co-curate digital cultural content and reinterpret objects from our collections, suggesting different ways of interpretation, display and interaction.

Goals of this session

Museums and cultural heritage institutions are increasingly using 3D technology to increase access and engagement with their collections. In this session, we will look at how we can use 3D cultural content in new and exciting ways, inspired by developments in the creative industries. How can 3D help democratise museum collections via co-curation and creative engagements?

This session aims to:
a) fresh creative ideas from the Mozfest community to take away and inform future work at our institution
b) provide an interactive museum experience for participants
c)create co-curation of interactive 3D objects using digital interfaces
d) build upon our successful Pop-Up Museum session held last year, and contribute to the Art & Culture Salon
