This session is facilitated by The XR self-organizing system team
About this session
The session will be built around a mix of:
-Engaging, bite-sized explanations that introduce the principles and tools of the Self-Organising System, building up participants’ understanding of the concepts
-Small-group discussions that create space for participants to process what they’re learning, share community organisation experiences of their own, and reflect on how they could apply the principles from this session in their own communities and the internet health movement
Goals of this session
In order to collectively create the structures that we need to challenge power, achieve radical social change, and minimise the risk of ecological collapse, we need to build a movement that is participatory, decentralised and inclusive.
We will introduce participants to the Extinction Rebellion (XR UK) Self-Organising System, which is our framework for this. It is based on principles of distributed authority, transparency, information sharing, and clear roles and mandates. Participants will learn tools and techniques for building decentralised movements, finding a balance between being quick and responsive, and harnessing collective intelligence.
Mozfest participants with interests in decentralisation, self-organisation, and movement building will learn about the principles and practice of the XR UK Self-Organising System, share their own experiences with decentralised movement building, and consider how they might apply principles of self-organisation in their own communities and the internet health movement.
