What Linux distribution do you use? What is your desktop environment?
On my side (Debian stretch / Gnome / Firefox Nightly ) I don’t have the same issue as you: my dropdowns have the same background color in both light and dark themes.

My main system is Arch Linux with Pantheon Shell. The problem is observed both in night assemblies and in stable ones.
Pantheon is GTK-based so the behavior should be similar to Gnome.
It would be interesting to know if you get the same problem with Gnome…
I will not install a gnome. On xfce I see all the same.
