This session is facilitated by Denis Akkavim, Alex Motoc, Tamara Eszterhas, Margaret Low
About this session
In this session, participants will take part in a mini-hackathon. They will be working in small groups to come up with games that use objects that are not normally thought of as ways of interacting with a computer as inputs. (i.e: no keyboard/mouse). They will then work collaboratively to build their ideas (guided by facilitators), using Scratch and the provided Makey-Makeys. Finally, at the end, groups will briefly present and demo their game to the other attendees, and everyone will have a chance to try the other games created in the session.
Participants will need to bring a laptop to take part in this session, but there will be a limited number of spare computers available for those who do not have access to a portable computer.
Attendees are expected to have a parent/guardian with them. Recommended age: 8+.
Goals of this session
The goal is to introduce participants to programming in a fun and accessible way, and to teach participants how to use technology to create experiences and tools that are accessible to all.
