Quick presentation on the latest research findings. Examples include: (1) Political advertising for recent US, EU, Canada, Argentina elections (2) How optimizing for revenue leads to discriminatory ad tech (3) Transparency efforts, or the lack of, by the platforms.

Small group discussions on sub-topics. Examples include: (1) Political advertising and election integrity. (2) Unethical or illegal activities, e.g. bias in job/housing/credit ads in the US. (3) Platform-specific issues, e.g. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube. (4) Impact of online advertising for specific events or in specific regions.

Joint discussion on (1) the key issues, (2) resources, tools, and information available to us, and (3) the most effective next steps given the key issues and our resources.

Goals of this session

Call to action for more transparency in ad tech. Research collaborations to better understand online targeting, both across platforms and across geographical regions. Collective efforts to monitor the platforms and hold their ad tech accountable.
