Nominations Open For CD Volunteers At The London All-Hands

Hello,

[UPDATE: Deadline for submissions is end of day PST on Friday 25 March]

Are you a tinkerer? Do you love playing with gadgets, hooking things up to the internet and tapping into the power of the connected world?

Are you a designer? Do you love thinking about how technology can improve people’s lives? Do you often think of your “users” as your friends?

Are you a product person? Do you have great ideas in IoT that have the potential to touch many people’s lives?

Are you a community leader? Are you an organizer of Mozillians, and do people rely on you to make decisions? Do you constantly (over)share what you are building on social networks and maybe even your blog?

Or, do you know someone like any of these?

If so, we have a great opportunity! We are looking for people to come along and work with the Connected Devices team in London for one week this June. We have a limited number of spots available, and Mozilla will sponsor those who are selected.

Who can nominate?

  • Any Mozilla Rep mentor, Council or Peer member can nominate up to 2 volunteer Mozillians – no self-nomination
  • Any person selected in the Participation Leaders cohort (MozFest, Orlando, Leadership Summit) can nominate up to 1 volunteer Mozillian – no self-nomination
  • Any volunteer Mozillian attendee of the Orlando All Hands can nominate up to 1 volunteer Mozillians – no self-nomination

We will be accepting self-nominations from anyone, however you must submit a video of something awesome related to IoT that you have been working on. More details about that below.

Diversity
You will see that we are asking for the nominee’s gender in the nomination form. This is because we are striving to have a balanced representation at the all-hands this year. We are also looking for new faces, so if you know someone who has not attended an All-Hands before please consider nominating them.

Video for Self-Nominations
If you are nominating yourself, please record a video showing something cool you are working on. Some things we are looking for:

  • Collaborative, energetic, and fun-loving personalities
  • Projects related to the IoT
  • Product ideas
  • Hackathons and events centered around IoT
  • Social networking and blogging about IoT
  • Community leadership in the IoT space

You have 100% artistic freedom to produce your video. You basically have up to 3 minutes to convince us why you are a strong candidate, so here are a few tips:

  • try to be original and have fun while making the video
  • ensure the function of what you are showing is clear, either via a demo and/or voiceover/subtitles
  • AVOID creating content that can be considered offensive
  • don’t go much over 3 minutes

The form is here: http://goo.gl/forms/xzbNWHXVsp

We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi, @bking great explanation. How far I know @mak is planning to have series of works or hackathons or workshops kinds of things on CD in Bangladesh. He shared his interest to work on this in our last Mid-term planning community meetup event after returning from LS. I know these because I managed and documented the whole event where all community members (mostly leaders and core contributors from all functional pathways) shared their plans for the first 6 month of 2016. He may be was waiting for a clear instruction or guideline from you guys on this and also had a small introductory event here in Bangladesh. I don’t fit the criteria to nominate. So, forwarding this thread to him.

But the question I have is: have you guys established or already tracking the activities around this or people, interested or planned to work on CD?? Cause staff from functional team can also nominate right??

Hi @anistuhin,

We are still ramping up on participation activities in CD, so are not doing any formal tracking right now. So we are really relying on you the community to tell us what is happening. We’d love to hear about it, in the application process or elsewhere.

Yes staff from the CD functional team can also nominate.

Hi @bking! I have a one question. You said we can present our IoT idea in video, but what about those people who don’t have required skills for their idea? Is it possible for them to still apply and work with those who have skills on that project?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @facyber,

The required skills are very broad: code, design, idea creation, product, storytelling (blogging), people organizing, and so on. I encourage you to apply and let us know what you are good at and what you would like to learn. Then we can see if there will be a good fit.
