What is the Mozilla People Directory?
Mozilla’s new People Directory, or DinoPark, as internally called in early stages, merges the functionality of Phonebook (Staff directory) and Mozillians.org (Staff and Volunteer contributor phonebook) into one system.
Why do we need a new People Directory?
The Mozilla People Directory allows us to search and discover profiles. It also allows for access management (Access Groups). To unfold its full potential, these use cases require one system holding all Staff and Volunteer profiles.
What are the key benefits of this People Directory for Mozilla?
The benefits are plentiful, including
- The People Directory provides excellent people search and discovery to connect and engage people
- In time, it will allow for powerful, consistent, self-service Access Management, keeping confidential things confidential and making it easy to open access.
- The old Phonebook is an application which has gone unmaintained for several years. Replacing it with the People Directory mitigates a significant security risk.
What are the key benefits of the People Directory for us, as a community?
With Mozillians.org staff members had to create and maintain a separate profile. This led to a lot of out-of-date entries. The People Directory is integrated with Workday and automatically updates Staff related entries. If privacy levels are set accordingly, community members will be able to access this data.
How can I control who can see my profile information?
While editing your profile, please check the icon on the right side of each input field. This icon indicates visibility level. For more details, please read this Discourse article.
What’s new in the search functionality?
People Search will find matches in name, job title, location, email and username. Searches allow for spelling errors so that you will still find the person you are looking for. Example: “berin” returns results including “Berlin”.
Additionally, ElasticSearch query syntax can be used to run an extended search across profiles. In the future, we will add UI widgets to make enhanced search capabilities more user-friendly.

Glossary
Pronouns
You can select from a list of predefined pronouns. If they don’t match your needs, you can enter your own pronoun.
Alternate Name
This field allows you to enter an additional or alternate name to your profile and control its visibility level.
Tagline
This field describes what you do in your own words. You can be as specific as sharing your current job title/company or you can just describe what you work on and what you are passionate about.
Location
This field allows you to enter your self-declared location.
Timezone
This field is automatically set based on your location.
Access to
There are three levels of access, that are in accordance with Mozilla’s data classification:

Staff only: This person has the highest level of access - Mozilla confidential - Staff only. Read more about the Mozilla data classification on the wiki.

Mozilla confidential: This person has access to data that can be shared with all of Mozilla staff and NDA’d contributors. Read more about the Mozilla data classification on the wiki.

Public: This person has access to data classified as Public. Read more about the Mozilla data classification on the wiki.
Bio
This field allows you to tell us more about yourself. It supports GitHub Markdown.
Profile picture
The picture URL is available to all reliers. It will show an Identicon unless you set the visibility level of your uploaded image to “public”. Within the People Directory, your profile picture is available in alignment with the selected visibility level.
