About this session

We’ll walk through the evolution of internet shutdowns through the last twelve months, from election outages in Africa to political censorship in Latin America, including their technical, social and economic footprint. Do countries share methods for mass-censorship? How can we circumvent shutdowns and throttling as they evolve and grow in complexity? And how can we campaign effectively to help support sustainable development and strengthen fundamental rights?

Goals of this session

We’ll bring together communities and allies who believe in a free and open internet that upholds digital and human rights. The goal is to help get participants equipped with the most effective and rapid tools and workflows used to detect and track internet shutdowns at times of political unrest, or during emergencies when we most need to get in touch with friends, family and loved ones.
