Mail.google.com forces legacy HTML version

Hi.

Today tried to open Gmail in browser, but after login a question appeared, if I really want to use old legacy HTML version with two buttons:

  • Switch to recommended full-featured Gmail
  • Use legacy HTML
I’ve chosen the full-featured version of course, but just got redirected on that prompt again, so forced to use legacy HTML version.

Would it work to change the User Agent to make Gmail think you’re iPhone or Firefox for Android?

I never tried to do that. What’s the right way for changing UA in FxOS?

To change the user agent, you need to connect to your Firefox OS phone using the Web IDE and add an entry in Device Preferences like this:

general.useragent.override.mail.gmail.com, with the value of the user agent you want to use

This has been a problem for Firefox on Android as well. See the bug for both at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=668275

Has anyone tried this recently. I tried last year (ie. pretending to be
both mobile chrome and mobile safari), and many buttons and layout was
broken making it almost unusable. Would be interesting to see if it’s
better these days.

Most of these will get resolved when this lands

Tried today, but did not seem to help. Actually tried to change the preference for other website to show me the user agent string, and the preference had no effect.
