This session is facilitated by Neil Ainsworth, Elise Ainsworth
About this session
Each participant will use a laptop set up beforehand with Google SketchUp. As MozFest happens each year in London, participants will be given a worksheet each with a selection of basic shapes for drawing 3D London landmarks. Using basic SketchUp skills, the participants will create a 3D model, before using textures, colours and their own designs to add their own flair. They will learn simple gestures and actions within SketchUp to first draw shapes and add colours, before then going on to use ‘Push/Pull’ and ‘Follow Me’, as well as more, to add a third dimension to their CAD interpretations of London landmarks.
Goals of this session
My goal through this session is to be able to give participants a basic and simple guide to finding their way around the popular Google SketchUp application, before then being able to apply this knowledge to create a 3-dimensional, coloured and detailed model of a landmark in the popular CAD application. This will add a further element of fun to a workshop that will already have a child-friendly atmosphere, creating a welcoming environment for children and adults alike to learn how to apply computational and architectural knowledge and imagination to their own creations.
