About this session

As seen recently in African countries, Governments can severely limit Internet connectivity or even shut down the internet altogether. Decentralization is one of the core values of the Internet and this is why our project is built to give a visual representation of the state of internet connectivity in different regions across the world. This would provide an avenue for the internet community to stay aware of real time occurrences of shutdowns and lack of connectivity around the world.

We designed a real-time mapping tool of IoT devices and at the Festival, we would display a live session of how the technology works, using Africa as a case study. This will then start up conversations on the importance of keeping the internet decentralized and avoiding network sovereignty.

Goals of this session

The goal of the session is to provide the internet community with a visual representation of the state of internet access within Africa and the stories that follow them.
