Inviting Reps to help L10N efforts for Mozilla Clubs

Hi Reps

The Mozilla Clubs program is advancing in many countries, we already have 100+ clubs registered and working throughout the globe spreading Web literacy and digital skills using our freely available and open source curriculum. (to learn more about Clubs go to http://teach.mozilla.org/clubs).

We know having English-only versions of this content has been a blocker for those who want to teach people in their communities how to read, write and participate on the Web.

We recently kicked off a mini-campaign inviting volunteers to help us translate our Web Literacy Basics I curriculum into 5+ languages. This effort marks a first step towards localizing our web literacy content in hopes of reaching new audiences and developing new leaders.

There are six activities in the Web Literacy Basics module, and the process is fairly easy. While the content lives on static HTML pages, We created a way for people to do the translations using markdown, and to submit them using GitHub issues. Each activity has a separate repo, where you’ll find step-by-step instructions. There’s also a handy video to walk you through the process.

More details are in this blog post: https://blog.webmaker.org/help-us-get-local-with-web-literacy and you can feel free to reach out or ask questions about the process in our Discourse forum: https://discourse.webmaker.org/t/help-us-localize-web-literacy-curriculum/27/8

So far we have 36 translations of our activities but we can do much more! We’d like to invite Reps and other community members who speaks languages beyond English to help us in this translation effort. Arief Bayu created a very good step-by-step guide for the translation work at https://ariefbayu.xyz/step-by-step-how-to-help-localize-web-literacy-curriculum-c6b3547838a0#.opu7147gd which makes the process much easier to understand. We also have a little dashboard showing our accepted localizations at https://d157rqmxrxj6ey.cloudfront.net/andregarzia/17163/

Thanks so much!

Best,
Andre
