Firefox will lose the battle due to its recent default search engine change, What did you say?

I found an article on Tech crunch saying that Mozilla is going to lose its market share due to the recent change in the default search engine from Google to Yahoo.
Go to the site and read the article

The site says:
“Mozilla has now partnered with Yahoo to power its search in the U.S. starting next month. And while Yahoo may not be the down-and-out company it seemed to be just a few years ago, it’s not exactly a powerhouse when it comes to search. This deal may gain Yahoo a few extra searchers, but it probably isn’t going to help Mozilla gain market share (because nobody is looking for a browser with built-in Yahoo search).”

What did you say, As a Mozillian?

Very opinionated article. I believe most mainstream users wont bother the change as its just 2 clicks away to change the default search engine. It’s honestly quite biased.

Also I don’t think that most “basic” users even care as long as they find their pages when they type “facebook” in the address bar to get redirected to the search page and then click on the first link.

Ah opinion pieces!

I think we need to wait to see what the improved Yahoo! search behaves like. But also, people keep acting like you can’t possibly use Google ever ever ever again!

SUMO has a great video linked about how to change the default search engine. I personally recommend linking it everywhere you see this come up.

Note: the video was removed from the support article, not sure why. Maybe because the UI is deprecated?

Maybe I’m not hanging with the kids these days, but I’ve never considered the default search engine choice to be a deciding factor in what browser one uses. Speed, reliability, security? Yeah. Default search engine? Nah.

Click bait?

Could we make that purple logo “official”?

Perhaps @bsmedberg could add an option to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/iconic-firefox-menu/

I doesn’t love google and my personal opinion is that I’m so happy to know that Mozilla are moving outside Google business confort zone but unfortunately for normal people is a losers alliance :frowning:

I would recommend to watch the internal meeting about the Search strategy:

Or read Chris Beard’s post:
