Field Trip - Open Source Web Documentary

This session is facilitated by Joscha Jaeger

Show on schedule

About this session

Participants will be able to experience the non-linear documentary. More importantly, participants will learn how to remix its openly licensed contents and reuse the open source technology for their own location-based storytelling projects. Visitors will get to interact directly with the materials and code snippets of the Field Trip project and are invited to reuse any part of the project.

Moreover, participants will learn more about the basic concepts and questions behind Field Trip, like: how to use web documentary projects as a means of accessing open cultural collections of galleries, libraries, archives and museums? Or: can interactive video contents serve as a user interface for an art collection?

Goals of this session

An openly licensed documentary, accompanying print articles, separately published short episodes, live events, a crowdfunding campaign and an actual phone booth in the community gardens of Tempelhof airfield in Berlin – all these components are part of the Field Trip project (https://github.com/OpenHypervideo/FieldTrip). During an all weekend installation in the Art & Culture Salon as well as a show and tell session, visitors and participants will be able to interact with the documentary and learn how to adapt the technology and contents to their own projects.
