Do I need a privacy policy?

My add-on is a toolbar that indicates when certain activities on a site are available. When they are a button becomes enabled and clicking on it sends you to that part of the site. I don’t run the website so I don’t have access to the cookies etc. Do I need a privacy policy for this, and if so how do I create one?

I can’t say for sure as long as I don’t see the code.

Do you transmit any information from the client to a remote server? If so, you probably need one.
If you only open a website after a user clicks a button, you probably don’t need it.

I just open a new tab when clicked. The code can be found at https://sourceforge.net/p/npgpltoolbar/code/ci/master/tree/ or in the addon at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/neopets-gpl-toolbar/

It’s not necessary unless you’re sending private user information somewhere. The Privacy Policy can be added in the Ownership section for the add-on in the Developer Hub.
