About this session

The ‘design in government’ session will be split into three parts: a few lightning talks giving insight into specific design work on public services, followed by a Q&A that allows participants to ask related questions and a panel discussion that dives deeper into how design reshapes government

Goals of this session

Creating awareness of the good, important and inclusive design work that’s happening in the UK government.

The UK government embraces a ‘users first’ approach to designing and building services. The Government Digital Service (GDS), which is part of the Cabinet Office leads digital transformation in government, collaborating with teams from other departments to help them build better public services. GDS provides the guidance, standards and tools like the GOV.UK Design System to help teams create better services. There are now over 900 designers across the UK government. In order to continue scaling a ‘users first’ approach we need even more designers to work in the civil service. Participants will be able to hear about what designers do in government and the impact they’re having.
