About this session
We will dedicate part of the session to talk about the research process previous to the development of this app, a year-long interaction with female journalists, activists, and human rights defenders from Mexico City, all of them experiencing extreme cases of violence related to their work and gender. For sharing, we designed an activity that allows participants to work in pairs and share stories related to risks they face at work and how they deal with them. This activity helps us to get the specific feedback we need to improve our tools and holds space for storytelling!
Then we will have an interactive testing session in which participants will get to see the app working on test devices and they will have the opportunity to ask any questions they might have and provide feedback in a fun way!
Goals of this session
The main goal of this hands-on session is to talk about the safety tools available to women facing online and offline gender violence, in which we will be introducing “Circulo” a tool designed to create strong support networks using encrypted channels of communication, share geolocation and send emergency alerts among a group of trusted contacts. It was created in collaboration between Article 19, Okthanks and The Guardian Project. We’d like to share stories and gather feedback on Circulo.
