About this session

Participants will have the opportunity to either contribute to the code base or contribute to the design of our inclusion metric through a fun interactive workshop and group activities.

During the session we will discuss our 5 proposed metrics of success that we are developing but will focus on inclusion. By using cue cards, role play and encouraging discussion we will start to bridge the gap between abstract concept to something potentially measurable.

Goals of this session

Digital media has opened the door for new forms of oppression and violence against women. When those women also happen to be human rights defenders, politically active, vocal or challenging the status quo this can be even more difficult, said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein. At Opt Out we’re building open source tools to help all female-identifying people like this engage with healthy debate online despite the abuse. During the session people will be able to contribute to Opt Out’s code base and also help design our novel metrics. Current metrics of participation such as no. of shares no. of clicks etc. have ensured that the social media tech giants live in the pockets of most people on the planet. But these simple metrics of participation don’t tell the full story. Can you help us do it differently?
