About this session
This session seeks a participatory format to co-create results in order to promote participation for broader inclusion in a census operation. It will begin by inviting participants to adopt the topic introducing themselves to learn how they relate to the session and what they expect from it.
Afterwards, it will brainstorm through 4 to 6 groups of 3 people to produce innovative solutions. Next, a facilitator will explain the typical problems of censuses in developing countries. Going through the groups, he/she will advise on pre-selected census topics including hot topics and facts (e.g., maps), figures and share anecdotes.
After having a general but short discussion to provoke innovative (as round as possible) ideas, groups formed by engaged participants will elaborate further. A request to report back on significant solutions. At the end we will be summarizing the session, reviewing and identifying together the next steps.
Goals of this session
Produce collaboratively innovative solutions for a population census in a developing country with the aid of civil society.
This will be done using a co-creation methodology and explaining both, issues related to the census in a developing country and new open data collection methods to run an innovative census. Assistants will gather in groups, discussing possible solutions and following up post-event through the internet.
The inputs that participants will have access to include a) The general context of the census in El Salvador, such as open data policies for statistics and related literacy needs, b) Resource issues such as the need for optimizing costs and technologies for the census operation and c) The prioritization of critical issues to address from the point of view of the government.
