Am I a foxfooder?

Hi

As of today the Flame phone finally appeared in the list from https://firefoxos.mozilla.community/

Now. I have added my IMEI1 there (I also have IMEI2 - but I am not sure if this is needed) and I am running the nightly-latest build and I have Enhanced selected in the Improve Firefox OS setting.

Am I a foxfooder now?

A foxfooder would need to have the ‘dogfood’ channel.
There is a bug going on to try to put dogfooders back into the nightly channel (an update changed it from dogfood to nightly).

Where did you add your IMEI1? To the update URL? (under the “developer” menu)

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1217490

I added my IMEI here: https://firefoxos.mozilla.community/ I don’t remember the button I click. But there was a form there asking for my IMEI

Which place of the update URL should we add the IEMI1?

It is in your Profile on https://firefoxos.mozilla.community/profile/

I don’t know if we should be modifying it.
There’s a variable already on the update url.

@armenzg_mozilla, which variable is it?

It shows as %IMEI% in the update URL. All the way down under the “settings->developer”.

Ah, yes! It’s already there in my flame!
I thought it meant I had to add my IMEI1’s number in the update URL.

On Flame with the Foxfooding image got on https://firefoxos.mozilla.community/device/T2Mobile/Flame the update channel does not push any update and the build is stuck on gecko 43.0a1, so it’s rather old. The only channel providing updates is “nightly”, but is it the one we are supposed to use?

Also the channels nightly-test and nightly-latest serve updates, twice a day with bugfixes.

Yes, but are they the correct ones for foxfooders?

No they are not. Flame-users need to wait until there is a proper build available. After that the channel needs to be changed to dogfood.

https://firefoxos.mozilla.community/device/T2Mobile/Flame looks like it should be a proper build, but it’s quite old. Without a working update channel it’s useless…

Do you know if will it be available soon?

No I don’t, just be patient. WilliamQ will come up with updates. There are some issues with the old build for Flame. Just stick with night-xxx for now. Later on we can spam Mozilla with telemetry from our Flame’s

I will do so, thanks!

At the moment this device is maintained by @CodingFree, but the link in the fooxfooding page [1] have a build outdated, today he share in twitter [2] this link [3] with a build for FLAME of today, I suppose maybe is need update this information on foxfooding page, but I not find anything in the github issues [4]. Maybe @CodingFree, tell us what is the plan.

Are foxfooding builds any different than those on https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/ ? What makes a foxfooding build so?

I’m greatly confused by all of this…

Yes, the build of FTP are variant for user and engineer, in the foxfooding build there are many iniciatives or new features for testing or receive feedback from foxfooders, firstly tested in foxfooding channel and then when the feature is stable, lands in user build, It is for each release of Firefox OS from now, I think, user build is for devices of end user, but at this moment, I think, maybe engineer build not is necessary . Just is my opinion.
