About the scope of Reps Mentors

Hi mentors,

This message is a reminder of one of the pending tasks we had from February Reps Leadership meeting.

We know mentors are always busy, and some of you have a lot of mentees to take care of. But it’s important to have in mind what are you supposed to do and what’s up to you to do.

From mentors page on Remo Wiki:

Mozilla Rep mentors play a crucial part in the success of the program. They are responsible for:

  • Reviewing applications assigned to them on Bugzilla
  • Interviewing applicants to learn more about them, and tell them more about the program
  • Informing applicants whether or not they’ve been accepted to the program
  • Monitoring the progress of their “mentees” and being their regular contact person in the program
  • Reviewing and validating their Reps with swag and budget requests
  • Providing feedback to the Council
  • Participating in regional meetings (online and offline), notably the annual ReMo Camp.

As you can see, guiding a Rep in his local community or with his mozillian activities is out of Reps mentors scope. Of course it’s a good thing if you have time and want to do it, but don’t feel obligated to do functional area mentoring.

Functional areas and local communities should enable mentoring processes to people interested in contributing, we can’t put that also on top of Reps mentors.
