Possible Spam Uploads

Hi,
I am new here. Can someone fill me in as to why this spam themes get submitted? What do people gain from this?

Although I didn’t look at every link you posted, what I did check are not spam. They are website themes. Those are allowed. There is even a website category. But what is spam are when people upload designs for the purpose of linking to websites to, for example, download pirated movies.

Ok, thanks for clearing this up. I should probably go and read the rules first before I start accusing anyone of breaking them

I am still a bit puzzled about the hundreds of submissions, some of very low quality, which seem to show snapshots of the creators pets and will hardly be downloaded by anyone else. And I am not sure if Firefox themes are an effective way of advertising for pirated movies?

No problem.

In the beginning there wasn’t an option to reject a design for being low quality, there is now. And as for submissions with people’s pets, whether someone uses it or not really isn’t something we judge. I myself have themes up featuring cats that I’ve had over the years. Some of them are used by others, some have no users now, but they used to.

I don’t know about the pirated movie thing, whether it’s effective or not. But it’s not allowed anyway.

I have no problems with
themes featuring animals, just with the quality of some of them

there should be some artistic merit, otherwise no one is going
to use them. The vast amount of themes on offer show 0 or 1
daily users, and while many might be new, I suspect that a good
part of them will not be particularly successful. Also, someone
looking for a theme will have to wade through masses of
possibilities to get a bit of an overview…

I understand what you’re saying. And I wasn’t thinking you had a problem with animal themes. As I said, quality control wasn’t implemented right away so there are quite a lot of designs online already that if they were uploaded now would never be approved.
