About tablet keyboards

Hi Folks,

I want to start a conversation about keyboard tablets and how to improve the one we have in Firefox OS. To start talking about this and avoid cluttering the topic with a long post, I posted an article about it on my homepage at:

I would welcome feedback, advise and additions. Once we have a clear picture of what we want we’ll enter a bugzilla request.

Cheers

@agarzia

My main point is that the keyboard can really make or break the experience of a tablet.

Agree.

The work of UX team related with the keyboard is being published at Bug 983043.

I’m not a big user of tablets right now so I will wait people comment this topic.

First thing : How come on your pictures the keyboard looks blue but in my tablet it looks more grey~ish ?!! ( weird )
Well i share most of the ideas you put out there but the size of the letters on the other hand suits people like me: big fingers.
I think i read somwhere that the keyboard can be extended ( here i Think http://unoyunodiez.com/2014/06/03/math-keyboard-for-firefox-os/ )

To clarify, this is the On Screen Keyboard (OSK) not a bluetooth connected hardware keyboard (bound to be lots of bugs there).

I agree the stock phone oriented keyboard is not good for tablets as operation will be different - eg pseudo touch typing compared to hunt & peck or 2 thumbs.

For info, this is great post by Microsoft on the design of the Windows 8 keyboard.- http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012/07/17/designing-the-windows-8-touch-keyboard.aspx
